Bilaspur District is located in southwest of Himachal pradesh
located between 31° 12' 30" to 31° 35 45" North latitude and 76° 23° 45" to 76° 55' 40" East longitude.
Mandi and Solan are situated in East. Solan in South, Punjab in West, Hamirpur and Mandi in North and Una District in North West.
The Sutlej river divides Bilaspur into two parts.
Formation as the district - 1st July, 1954 AD as 5th district.

• hills and dhars in Bilaspur
Bilaspur (Kahlur) is also called Satdhar Kahlur. Because of seven hills.
1.Nainadevi hill On this hill there is a temple of Naina Devi. Kot Kahlur Fort and Fatehpur Fort are situated on this hill.
2.Kot Dhar:bachretu fort is located in this Hill
3.Jhajhiar Dhar-Seer Khad divides it into two parts. There is a temple of Gugga Gehadvi and Goddess Bhadoli.
4.Tiyun Dhar-Tiyun Fort, Naurangarh Fort are situated on this hill.
5.Bandala Dhar-This Dhar is 17 km is long. Pera Gliding is done here.
6.Ratanpur Dhar- Ratanpur fort is situated here. David OctorLoni defeated Gorkha Commander Amar Singh Thapa.
7.BAHADURPURDHAR:- Bahadurpur Fort is situated here at 1980 m.it is the highest point of Bilaspur. Bahadurpur Fort was the summer residence of Raja Bijai Chand.
rivers -
• Sutlej-Sutlej river enters Bilaspur from Kasol (from Mandi) and leaves Bilaspur from Naila village (Bhakra) and enters Punjab. Alikhad, Gambhar and Sirkhad are the major tributaries of Sutlej in Bilaspur district.
• Seer Khad - Seer Khad is the largest tributary of Sutlej (in Bilaspur). 'Sukar Khad' is found near 'Balghar' in Sir Khad. Seer Khad enters Bilaspur from 'Hatwar' and joins Sutlej near 'Seri'.
• Gambhar Khad - Gambhar Khad originates from Shimla (Tara Devi) district and enters Bilaspur from 'Neri' village. The Gambhar Khad joins the Sutlej near 'Dangran'.
• Ali Khad - Ali Khad leaves from Arki in Solan and enters Bilaspur from 'Kothi Harar'. Ali Khad joins the Sutlej near 'Berri Ghat'.
Waterfalls/Springs:-Bassi & Luhund
Tank/Toba- Bilaspur district is famous for the tank which is called Toba in the local language.
• Jagatkhana Tank This tank was built by Raja Hirachand in 1874 AD.
• Swarghat Tank This tank was built by Raja Hirachand in 1874 AD.
• Tank Sanghwana - This tank was built by Raja Bijechand. Apart from this, Tank Kasol, Tank Jamthal, Tank Rewalsar in Bilaspur
Lake:-
• Govind Sagar Lake is situated in Bilaspur Himachal Pradesh.It is the largest man-made lake formed from the water of the Sutlej river on which Bhakra Dam is built.The area of this lake is 168 sq km.The foundation stone of Bhakra Dam was laid in 1955 AD by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru
The height of this dam is 225 m
This dam was completed in 1963 AD.256 villages of Bilaspur were submerged in Govind Sagar lake.
•Valleys-there are three valleys
Satluj valley,
CHAUNTO VALLEY &
DANWIN VALLEY.
•Language:-
The spoken language of the people is Kahluri which is off shoot of Punjabi.
Grierson calls it "Rude Punjabi" similar to that spoken in Hoshiarpur district of Punjab.
Kahluri is main language spoken; Hindi and English are also widely understood.
